Nickey Brennan has been involved with Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC) since 2009 as a member of the Kilkenny Community Communications Co-operative Society Board (until September 2017) and as a broadcaster with the station. During that period Nickey engaged directly with the BAI to secure a number of temporary licences, and in more recent times he also engaged with Pobal to secure funding for community radio operations. As a broadcaster, Nickey will once again be actively involved with the CRKC Sports Team, providing comprehensive coverage of all sports in Kilkenny to the community station’s listenership. CRKC recognises the passion for sport that exists in Kilkenny and the station’s Sports Team will ensure that every sport receives its rightful share of coverage on Community Radio. During its period of temporary broadcasting, the CRKC Sports Team hosted programmes between Friday to Monday (incl.) and this will continue during full-time broadcasting, with a further sports programme scheduled for Tuesday evenings plus daily sports updates. Nickey has enjoyed a long association with the GAA as a player at club and county level, plus administration roles in Club, County, Provincial and at National levels. He has served as Chairman of his Club, County and Province and was President of the GAA between 2006 and 2009. His GAA Presidency coincided with the opening of Croke Park to rugby and soccer. It was also a period of significant change in the GAA with a major review of the Association’s human resources, branding and marketing strategies, plus the introduction of new sponsorship and media broadcasting models. During recent periods of temporary broadcasting Nickey hosted a successful Saturday morning current affairs, community and business programme. This will continue with the full-time licence. CRKC has waited patiently to secure a full-time licence and Nickey is now looking forward to reengaging with the listenership in Kilkenny City and environs and indeed further afield over the internet.
